This summer is shaping up to be a successful fishing season for local anglers. Fishermen have pulled in cat fish ranging in size from 19 to 43 pounds. Two local youth, Lane and Mason, each caught two large cats in a single day.  Lane’s fish weighed 39 and 43 pounds and Mason’s fish weighed 27 and 39 pounds. Veteran fishermen Rob and Gary also each caught two large cats in a single day of fishing. These successes were congratulated by Steve Rook, Lake Manager, and will be awarded prizes by the City of Fairfield for their catches.

The largest fish caught this year at Marsh Lake was a 56 lb. Blue Cat caught June 6th by Brian.  The largest fish ever caught at Marsh Lake was a 63 lb. Blue Cat caught in 2006 by Zack.

2007, A Great Season

The largest fish prize in 2007 year at Marsh Lake goes to Dan Glazier, who caught a 55 pound Blue Cat on Saturday Oct. 27. The previous record was a 54.5 pound Blue Cat, caught by 17-year old Caleb Webster.  Jordon Kaiser caught the next biggest fish, a 42 pound Blue Cat, and Eric St. Clair claimed a 38 pound Shovel Head Cat.

2007 was a very successful year for Marsh Lake fishing customers. 4,603 fish were caught weighing a total of 11,345 pounds. Over half the fish caught were released.  2563 Catfish, 323 Trout, 979 Bass, 330 Blue Gill, 358 Crappie, 42 Carp, 6 Walleye and 2 Drum fish make up the total. The largest Bass caught was 7 pounds and the largest fish caught was a 55 pound Blue Cat.  A total of 6732 pounds of Channel Cat and 1125 pounds of Rainbow Trout were stocked.

Fairfield resident Ray Tebbe had a great weekend of fishing on October 13 and 14.  He caught and released a total of 22 cat fish weighing 92 pounds.  Ray, an avid fisherman, tells us he really enjoys fishing at Marsh Lake.  With success like this we can understand why.
