Additionally, persons engaged in the construction of water (both domestic and fire) and sewer taps must be licensed through the Public Utilities Department's Wastewater Division. Homeowners performing work on their own residences are not required to be licensed. How to apply for licensingIndividuals wishing to obtain electrician; sign erector; or heating, ventilation and air conditioning licensing must submit an application (minimum requirements must be met) and payment of the $100 examination fee. The applicant must also submit proof of insurance with a minimum of the following: $250,000 property damage and $250,000/$500,000 bodily injury. Upon submission of such, a testing date will be scheduled. Contractors who have been issued an HVAC or electrician license by the State of Ohio are not required to take an examination. However, a copy of the state license must be submitted to the City of Fairfield's Building Inspection and Zoning Division. A passing grade of 70 percent must be achieved to obtain the license. Licenses are valid for the calendar year in which issued and are renewed annually thereafter (Dec. 31 expiration) upon submitting the $35 renewal fee.
