Welcome: Development Services: Maps

How to use the interactive maps

With Fairfield's Geographic Information System (GIS), you are able to build customized maps by turning on or off different layers of information.

Browser requirements

Fairfield's interactive maps can only be viewed with Internet Explorer. Download the latest version.

Download software

To view Fairfield's GIS, you must install the Adobe SVG Viewer from www.aobe.com. On your first visit to the interactive maps, you will be prompted to download the software.

How to use the maps: Themes

The map content is organized into themes and maps. A map defines what features you see in the map view and which commands are available in the toolbar. Related maps are grouped into themes. You can view the maps in different layers of detail using the legend.

How to use the maps: Legend

The legend shows what is available to display in the map and the current style of the legend entries. The legend also gives you the ability to update the properties for each legend entry, such as the style and the scale.
Layers can be turned on and off by checking or unchecking the box next to the layer.
After selecting a layer, the map will automatically refresh with the update.

Layers can be styled by clicking the layer icon and adjusting the properties in the small Legend Properties window. Be sure to click OK in the small window, and then UPDATE LEGEND in the legend box for updates to occur.
The map does not automatically refresh style updates.

How to use the maps: Map tools

Use these buttons to control the level of detail and the location shown in the map window. If you hold the mouse cursor over these tools in the map window, a box naming their function will appear. Be sure that you allow pop-up windows, or some of these tools will be unavailable to you.
