Budgets and reports

The city's finance administration/accounting/budgetary division is responsible for all areas of financial administration, including revenue recording, investments, expenditure tracking, financial records administration, budgeting, debt financing, auditing and financial reporting.

Budget Preparation

Within the budgeting area, the annual "tax budget" is prepared in mid-July, presented to Fairfield City Council and made available for public inspection in accordance with state requirements.

In the fall, the proposed budget for the following year is offered to council for their approval, an interim budget is passed and a final appropriation ordinance is considered in early January for the revenues and expenditures for that year.

CAFR Preparation

Each year, after the books are closed in December, the division begins the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report.

Annual Information Statement
This Annual Information Statement pertains to the operations of the City of Fairfield for the calendar year 2007 and is dated August 1, 2008.

Capital Improvement Program
This document provides City Council with a comprehensive plan of capital improvements that are to be undertaken by the City over the next five (5) years.

Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
This report represents and reflects upon the city's financial operations and condition to the city's residents, its elected officials, management personnel, financial institutions, city bondholders, rating agencies and all other parties interested in the financial affairs of the city.

Financial data
The 2006 operating budget, which was prepared in the fall and submitted to Council at the end of 2005, totaled $55.3 million. The City’s administration also prepares a five-year Capital Improvement Program totaling $55.4 million, of which $9.3 million was for new projects in 2006.
