| Chief - Donald G. Bennett
Don manages fire and emergency medical services for the community of Fairfield. In addition to fire and emergency medical responses, the department responds to water rescue situations, incidents involving hazardous materials, high angle rescue, improvised explosive devices and other emergencies endangering life and/or property. Background: Don began his career in fire service in 1970 as a volunteer firefighter for the Dunlap Fire Department in Hamilton County. He joined the Colerain Township Fire Department in 1973, advancing to the position of Fire Lieutenant/Training Coordinator. He then accepted the position of Fire Chief at Hilton Davis Chemical in charge of emergency response to fires, emergency medical calls and chemical spills. He joined the City of Fairfield as its first career Fire Chief in 1984. Don is a graduate of the US Dept of Justice/ Federal Bureau of Investigations Hazardous Devices Technician program (1993) and the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program (1995). He earned Chief Fire Officer Designation, International Association of Fire Chiefs in 2004. In 1994, Don received the Ohio Fire Service Valor Award, and he was named the Fairfield Community Foundation’s Firefighter of the Year in 2005. He is a member of International Association of Fire Chiefs, Ohio Fire Chiefs, Greater Cincinnati Hazardous Materials Unit, and Butler County Fire Chiefs. Personal interests/family: Don is married to Wendy and has a daughter, Stephanie, a step daughter, Emily, and a step son, Joseph. He enjoys woodworking, motorcycle touring, Nascar and fishing.
