Citizens Fire Academy

The Fairfield Fire Department conducts its Citizen Fire Academy every year to enhance and develop citizen awareness and understanding of the Fire Department’s role in the community. It improves the overall working relationship of citizens and firefighters and form a partnership for a safer city.

Classes in the 10-week session are taught by Fire Department employees. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with the Fire Chief and staff members. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and to express their concerns to Fire Department employees.

Topics addressed include:

Fire Department organization
Hazardous materials
Basic First Aid
Improvised explosive devices
C.P.R.
Fire inspections
Emergency scene operation
Fire investigations
Auto extrication
Ride-along program

Potential candidates for the Citizen Fire Academy must meet the following criteria:

Minimum age of 18 years
Live or work within the City of Fairfield or employed by an agency that has a working relationship with the Fairfield Fire Department
No prior felony arrests
No misdemeanor arrests within five years of application

The Department's intention is not to make citizens firefighters or to prepare individuals for a career in the fire service.
