Welcome: Fire: Health & safety

Home and building safety

Because more than 5,000 Americans die each year from fire and more than 2.5 million fires occur each year, costing Americans $30 billion, consider the home fire safety tips and resources:

Commercial property checklist
Use the questions below to gauge your building’s fire safety. Any questions answered with a “No” indicate a problem that should be addressed immediately.

Fire escape plan
In a fire, you are excited and unable to think clearly, so having a fire escape plan in place helps prevent panic, which can result in injury or death.

Fire safety inspections

Guide for babysitters
This checklist has been provided to educate babysitters about how to handle an emergency situation. Use the list as a discussion tool with parents for whom you babysit.

Home safety checklist
Use the suggestions below to minimize the chances of your home being in one of the 390,000 home fires that occur each year in the United States.

Kitchen fires
Fires originate in the kitchen more often than any other room of the house, and a large number of  injuries are caused by improper reaction to kitchen fires.

Radon
When allowed to accumulate to high levels, radon can be hazardous to long-term health.

Smoke detectors
So that every Fairfield resident can have the peace of mind an operable smoke detector provides, Fairfield firefighters install the devices free of charge in the homes of those who are not able to afford them or who are unable to service an existing smoke detector.
