Here's a quick summary: SalaryThe city strives to maintain competitive wage and salary structures by which it will be able to attract and retain qualified employees. The city negotiates with several unions which represent the majority of full-time employees, over wages and working conditions. *Medical insuranceA competitive medical insurance package of hospitalization, medical, surgical, dental and prescription coverage is provided for full-time employees. The city currently pays 90 percent of the cost of this benefit. *Life insuranceThe city provides, at no cost to the employee, life insurance in the amount of $50,000. Additional insurance may be purchased by the employee. RetirementRetirement benefits are provided by the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) or the Police and Fire Disability and Pension Fund. Benefits are based on years of service, age at retirement and final average salary. *Holidays & personal leaveTwelve scheduled paid holidays each year, plus four discretionary personal days are provided except in the instances described below: Police - 136 hours of holiday/personal time *Sick leaveTwelve days of paid sick leave are granted to each employee annually, except as described below: Police - 102 hours *VacationTwo weeks vacation is granted after one year of service. Three weeks after seven years; four weeks after 14 years and five weeks after 24 years. Deferred compensationEmployees may defer up to $14,000, $18,000 if over age 50, annually in a deferred compensation investment plan. *Tuition refund programEmployees are reimbursed for successful completion of college level, career-related courses up to six credit hours at the Miami University rate. *Longevity awardIn recognition of the service of employees, the city annually rewards employees with a special payment based on years of service. Employees with one to eight years of service receive $45 per year ($30 per year for firefighter/paramedics) for each full year of employment. For service of nine years or more, the payment is $75 per year ($50 per year for firefighter/paramedics). Employee assistance programThe city provides, at no cost to employees, an employee assistance program. Trained counselors are available to help employees and their families with a wide variety of problems such as stress, work and family issues, substance abuse, relationship issues and more. * This benefit applies to full-time employees only.
