Ben plans and oversees the special events offered through the Parks & Recreation Department, including the Groovin’ on the Green Concert Series, September Dayz, Swingin’ on the Green, Easter Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Patch and many others. He lines up all entertainment and is responsible for attracting sponsors to support those events. He also organizes the monthly wine tasting and Salsa Nights that take place in the Community Arts Center. Background: Ben earned his bachelor's degree from Miami University in Health and Sports Studies and is currently working towards a master's degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. Ben began working with the City of Fairfield in 2002. Previously, while at Miami University, he worked at the Goggin Ice Arena as an Intramural Sports Intern. He also interned with Don Schumacher and Associates in Cincinnati in the Prep Sports Division, working directly on the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. As liaison to the Enrivonmental Resources and Community Forest Commission, Ben helped with the City’s efforts to qualify as a Tree City USA. Both are awarded by the National Arbor Day Foundation. In addition to the ERCFC, Ben serves on the Parks Board and the Cultural Arts Advisory Commission as staff liaison. He is also a member of the Red, White & Kaboom committee. Ben was a member of Leadership Fairfield Class V. He is also a member of the National Parks & Recreation Association and has attended the Indiana University Executive Development Program for Parks and Recreation Professionals. Personal interests/family: Ben and his wife, Jen, were married in 2003 and have a son, Owen, and daughter, Reagan. He enjoys playing ultimate Frisbee, which he’s done since playing on the club team at Miami University. He currently participates in various leagues offered through the Cincinnati Ultimate Players Association. He also enjoys golf, but says “most of all I love spending a lot of time with my family.” Last updated: 5/5/2008 |
