Themed "Caribbean night," the evening included the Miami Still Drum Band, food, a caricature artist and the presentation of the 2006 volunteer awards. Community Service Award: 50th Anniversary CommitteeThe members, under the leadership of former Councilmember Jill Kinder, met during 2004 and 2005 to plan the city's 50th Anniversary celebrations. Some of the events that took place in 2005 were Experience Fairfield, Discover Fairfield, Festive Fairfield, Fabulous 50's Fairfield, Classmates Fairfield, Explore Fairfield, Past, Present and Future Fairfield and Celebrate Fairfield. Members of the Committee: Jill Kinder, Karen Schulten, Dena Morsch, Susan Gassner, Debbie Rhees, Ben Strickler, Nancy Wenning, Martha Tipton, Jeff Kursman, Betsy Hope, Jim Bell, Jim Irwin, Jenny Burton, Kim Constantinides, Debbie Pennington, Ray Sullivan, Jeff Holtegel, Gale Baynes, Angie Johns, Cindi Lewellyn, Dave Hargrave, Bob Schappacher, John Lawson, Bill Kees and Karen Wittmer. Volunteer Spirit Award: Sally BraunSally is the current President of the Fairfield Community Foundation. She became a member of the Foundation Board in July of 2002 and served as Vice President for the years 2003-2004. She has served as Chairperson of the Foundation's Annual Event for the last three years and is one of the Founders of the Fairfield Community Foundation. She went over and beyond to help the children of Sacred Heart when she served as their School Nurse. She also helps out at the Community Arts Center in the Senior Lounge administering blood pressure checks for the senior citizens. Youth Service Award: Heather ChuraChura is a senior at Fairfield High School and is a member of the Interact Club. She has taken a leadership role on the Executive Board and spearheaded many of the major projects for the year: Operation Military Pride, Tutoring/Mentoring volunteer at Fairfield West Elementary, Living Waters dinner, Christmas party at Hillendale Retirement Center, Christmas Decorations for the needy drive, Beanies for Baghdad, RASKALS, and Serve City. Government Service Award: Dick WhiteThis award is presented to an individual who has provided outstanding service directly to the City of Fairfield. Dick White has served regularly as the City's Volunteer Photographer for several years. From the 50th Anniversary events to some of our local festivals, Dick has generously donated his time and his skills to provide photos for city archives, publications and the Web site. In addition to these four, the evening recognized the contributions of Board and Commission members; City volunteers, including those that volunteer at the Community Arts Center, the Municipal Court and other city facilities; School volunteers; Service organizations; Churches; Adopt a Roadway and Adopt a Park volunteers; RASKALS volunteers; Make a Difference Day volunteers; Habitat volunteers; Red White and Boom Committee Members; the Citizens Emergency Response Team; Friends of Elisha Morgan Mansion; and members of the Fairfield Community Foundation.
