2007 volunteer awards

The 2007 Volunteer Awards honored the many individuals and groups who donated their time and talents in 2006 to help their community.

Community Service Award: Fairfield Footlighters

The Fairfield Footlighters have tapped into our "quality of life" by providing a venue for both indoor and outdoor drama. Through countless hours of volunteer work, they have created a Theatrical Company that provides our community with public dramatic performances. These performances have also served as a catalyst for donations to charitable causes. The Fairfield Footlighters provide unique educational and cultural opportunities within our City. Ray Sullivan, Sterling Uhler and John Brunner formed the Fairfield Footlighters to create a theatrical group that would offer the Fairfield Residents an opportunity to experience and participate in the performing arts. - Nominated by Chris Kendall and Mark Koeninger

Presented to a group, organization or business who has contributed to the quality of life within the City of Fairfield.  The nomination may be based on one special project or an accumulation of many year’s work.  The service may have been given directly to the City or to another individual, group or organization within the City.  Work performed by the group may be in a volunteer capacity, as part of a volunteer/paid coalition, or as part of a paid project. 

Volunteer Spirit Award: Jeni Brodsky

Jeni has served her community in any ways. She has Chaired the After Prom Committee for the last two years She has helped make sure that Fairfield High School students have a safe environment following the Prom. Jeni leads other parents in the decorating of the school and also helps chaperone the event. Jeni has chaired several social events at the Rolling Hills Swim Club. She has also helped with the Fairfield High School Swim Team and has put in countless hours volunteering for this endeavor. She has hosted youth group events for John Wesley United Methodist Church. She is also a member of Young Life's Ambassador Team. This is just a small list of all Jeni has done for our schools and our community. - Nominated by Lynne Albrecht and Paul Waller

Presented to an individual who has contributed to the quality of life within the City of Fairfield.  The nomination may be based on one special project or an accumulation of many year’s work.  The service must have been given to an individual, group or organization within the City of Fairfield.  All service must have been given in a volunteer capacity. 

Youth Service Award: Kaitlin Hettinger

Kaitlin has served her community in a variety of ways. She has served as a Kids on the Block Puppeteer. This program educates children about people with disabilities or differences. She has also volunteered for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She has done talent and fashion shows for Birchwood Senior Center. As a member of the Fairfield High School FCCLA, she  helped organize a fashion show for the American Cancer Society. She has also received a Girl Scout Gold Award. She has volunteered by helping with Adopt a Highway, the Open Door Pantry, the Crystal Classic and various other activities. - Nominated by Rosemary Gebhart and Karen Schmahl

Presented to a youth, 18 years of age or younger, who gives generously of his/her time to the betterment of his/her community.  This youth must reside within the Fairfield City School District while the service was performed.  The service must have been given directly to the City of Fairfield or to another individual, group or organization within the City.  All service must have been given in a volunteer capacity.  Projects for schools, organizations and other groups are acceptable.

Government Service Award: Charlie Shelton

Charlie  has served the City in many ways. He was recently featured in a Journal News Article saying he was "The CAC's Best Salesman." He served over 500 hours in 2006, helping out at the Community Arts Center. He is in the building every day and has brought numerous people through the CAC doors. Charlie serves as a volunteer greeter and tour guide at the CAC. He also ushers for our many theater productions. He played a big role in our Christmas program here at the CAC. He was a major contributor to our Reds Display in the Art Gallery, which was featured in the spring of 2005. Charlie, along with Joe Nuxhall, provided all the baseball memorabilia that was displayed during the exhibit. He has been a tremendous voice in getting the word out about various senior adult activities in the building. Charlie makes it a point to be first in and last out when Senior programming is going on. He is always recruiting for the program. He has become a permanent fixture at the CAC, and we appreciate all he has done. - Nominated by Jim Bell and Parks and Recreation and Community Arts Center staff

Presented to an individual who has provided outstanding service directly to the City of Fairfield, or a program or service sponsored by the City of Fairfield.  The nomination is primarily based on one special project but may be awarded for an accumulation of many year’s work. City of Fairfield FAVOR Volunteers, City of Fairfield Board and Commission Members, and individuals who have contributed to a program or activity sponsored by the City of Fairfield are eligible for this award.
