Description of exercisesPushups: The exercise is conducted from a prone starting position. In completing each repetition, the candidate's body must be kept straight from shoulders to ankles, and in each extension up, the elbows should not lock. Feet may be together or up to 12-inches apart. In lowering, upper arms must be parallel to the ground. Sit-ups: The candidate will lay on his/her back, knees bent at a 90 degree angle, and heels flat on the mat. Hands may be interlocked behind the head, or cupped behind the ears. A partner holds down the feet. When completing the sit-up, the candidate's elbows must touch the knee, and buttocks must remain in contact with the mat. The candidate then returns to the lying position, with shoulder blades touching the mat. 1.5 Mile Run: The candidate must complete the 1.5 mile run in the prescribed time limit. Depending on weather conditions, the run will be held at an outdoor track or an indoor running track. The distance will be pre-certified. Candidates must supply their own running shoes; however, there is no other prescribed wear. Candidates may run in a group, or with an individual pacer, however, may not be assisted in other manner. This is a pass-fail element of the selection process. Additional repetitions beyond the minimal requirements will not benefit the candidate in the selection process. Failure to complete the exercises after two attempts in any one hiring cycle requires disqualification for further consideration in that cycle. Last updated: 10/14/2008 |
