| Juvenile Diversion Counselor - Jean Wesseler
Jean coordinates the Juvenile Diversion Program, intervening with youth who have come into contact with the police for first-time, non-violent offenses. The program’s goal is to divert youth from the court system and to mitigate the situation through counseling and behavior modification. Working with youth and their families, Jean develops a comprehensive plan, provides short-term counseling, coordinates social services and monitors compliance with treatment programs. Background: Jean is a certified Chemical Dependency Counselor and Criminal Justice Specialist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Prior to her work with the City of Fairfield, Jean worked with Clermont County Juvenile Court as a substance abuse counselor and Assistant Director of Court Services. She also served as a consultant and treatment supervisor at Clermont County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, a cottage supervisor at Hillcrest School and an elementary school teacher. Jean was the first-ever recipient of the Fairfield STAR award and received a plaque for her work with the Fairfield Youth Fire-Police Academy. She is a member of the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors, the Ohio Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors and the American Correctional and Court Services Association. She helped to train officers in Trotwood, Ohio, where a similar Juvenile Diversion Program is now in place. Jean’s many volunteer and community service efforts include:
Personal interests/family: Jean is married to Jack, and she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She is godmother to several families she met while volunteering on the Navajo reservation in Window Rock, Arizona. She enjoys golf and collects logo golf balls.
