Welcome: Public Utilities: Wastewater

Wastewater Division

The Wastewater Division is responsible for collecting and treating water consumed by Fairfield residents. In 2006, a daily average of 5.3 million gallons of water was treated for return to the environment. The daily average represented nearly a 13 percent decline in wastewater flows continuing a 15 year trend in reductions, thanks to ongoing efforts to eliminate infiltration of rainwater into sewer lines. The dramatic decline in 2006, however, was also due to a drier than normal summer.

Sewer emergencies

Call 513-858-7760 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. During normal business hours, your questions will be answered by a collection system employee. After 3:30 p.m. and until 11 p.m., the plant operator will take your call and contact an employee immediately to respond. During heavy rain events, calls will be responded to in the order they are received.

Clean-out location lookup
If a home was built prior to 1970, residents can search for the original sewer application document by entering the home's address in the fields below. The resulting document(s) contains the date the line was installed, contractor and a possible sketch indicating location of clean-outs.

Customer complaint search
This database contains information reported to the Public Utilities Wastewater Division. Specifically, any sewer related issue reported to the City of Fairfield's Wastewater Division since 1982.

Sewer root control
Root infiltration can cause a blockage to the later, the sewer line servicing your home, resulting in sewage backup in your home and damage to your furnishings.

Smoke testing
Smoke testing is performed periodically as part of the city’s ongoing sanitary sewer inspection program. The smoke testing helps to identify areas where “clear” water is entering the system and could cause sanitary sewer backups.

Video sewer inspections
The City’s ongoing Closed Circuit Television inspection program sends remote cameras into the sanitary sewer lines to identify potential problems, like roots and cracks, for both the city and homeowners.

Wastewater treatment
Since the original wastewater treatment plant was completed in 1976, Fairfield has continued to expand and modernize its wastewater treatment processes.
