The Street Division monitors the street sweeping contract. The contractor sweeps arterial and collector streets twice per month, the downtown area one time per week and residential streets five times per year.

Sweepers also respond to special requests for immediate pickup of debris creating traffic problems, such as broken glass.

In addition to keeping the street clean, sweeping reduces health hazards by ensuring trash doesn't accumulate and become a harborage for insects and rodents.

It also plays an important role in the protection of the aquifer from potential contaminates.
