Koch Foods, which operates a chicken processing plant on Port Union Road in Fairfield, recently announced a major expansion project that will effectively double its production capacity. Koch Foods plans to invest more than $45 million into a 179,000 square foot expansion of its facility. The company currently employs more than 700 employees. After construction, the company will add an additional 390 employees.
The City assisted the project with a 75%, 10-year property tax abatement on the future assessed valuation of the new addition and a rebate of a portion of the company's sanitary sewer administration fees. The State of Ohio also assisted the project with a job creation tax credit.
Koch Foods was founded in 1985. Today, it is one of the largest integrated poultry processors in the country, with more than 20 plants located across the United States. The company is currently one of the top 10 employers in Fairfield. When the project is complete, it will move into the top 5 largest. It is also the City's largest water user by a significant margin.
