Primary Duties:

The assessment is designed to evaluate essential job knowledge related to supervisory positions in the fire service.  Primary areas of assessment include:  administrative/time management, fire scene management, the firefighter’s role in the community, management and supervision of personnel, and principles and tactics.  A candidate must attain a passing score of 70% to be eligible for ranking on the Eligibility List.

Desired Qualifications:

This promotional opportunity is open to employees who have completed their probation period and who hold a current Paramedic certification.

After the assessment process the candidates will be ranked and the Eligibility List will be presented to the Civil Service Commission for approval.  After approval the top four candidates will be subsequently interviewed by City Administration.

Pay Range:

Probationary Period:  One year

Salary Range:  $27.51 per hour

The Fairfield Civil Service Commission is conducting an open competitive exam to establish an eligibility list for the position of Laboratory Technician for the City of Fairfield on Tuesday, October 14th   at 6:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Drive, Community Rooms A & B.

Primary Duties:

This position is under general supervision and is responsible for a variety of physical, chemical and biological examinations of water, wastewater, industrial wastes, streams and residual waste of the Water and Wastewater Divisions as required by the EPA and for plant operations.

 Duties/Responsibilities include but not limited to:  Operate laboratory instruments such as ovens, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen and specific ion meters, and spectrophotometers; maintain accurate records of analyses, compute and prepare presentations, records and charts; provide analytical support to all sections within the lab; conduct research studies aimed at better control of the water treatment process; perform bacterial sampling; develop and maintain schedule of sampling programs; and oversee management of laboratory supplies, equipment, repairs, etc.

Desired Qualifications:

Qualifications include:  Effective oral and written communication skills and experience; basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access; analytical skills; high school diploma or GED; minimum of two years advanced education in chemistry, biology or related field, Associate or Bachelor Degree preferred; and a valid driver’s license.  Must obtain and maintain as a condition of employment the OEPA Chemical Certification for required water analyses.

Pay Range:

Probationary period:  6 months  

Starting salary:  $20.91 per hour

Hours: Primarily Weekend evenings, Saturday and Sunday days. Some weekday evenings as needed.

Must be age 21 or older at time of hire. Experienced working face-to-face with customers in fast-paced situations. Food service and/or banquet industry a plus. Job Types

Some of our positions are considered "classified civil service" and require the successful completion of an examination process to be considered. Classified civil service positions include police officer, firefighter/paramedic, account clerk, clerk, meter reader, operator maintenance worker, mechanic and others. "Unclassified" jobs, such as part-time, temporary and seasonal positions, positions in the municipal court, administration, professional and management positions usually do not require an examination.
