Job Types
Some of our positions are considered "classified civil service" and require the successful completion of an examination process to be considered. Classified civil service positions include police officer, firefighter/paramedic, account clerk, clerk, meter reader, operator maintenance worker, mechanic and others. "Unclassified" jobs, such as part-time, temporary and seasonal positions, positions in the municipal court, administration, professional and management positions usually do not require an examination.

| Primary Duties: | The City of Fairfield is seeking applicants for the position of Fleet/Facilities Manager which is responsible for researching, purchasing and maintenance of the city-wide fleet of over 250 vehicles and equipment; a division budget of nearly $1 million; and assuring that City buildings well-maintained. |
| Desired Qualifications: | Requires three to four years experience in mechanical maintenance and extensive experience in automotive maintenance and repair. Bachelor’s Degree or advanced education as well as ASCE Certification preferred. Must have leadership skills and managerial experience. CDL required within six months of hire. |

| Desired Qualifications: | Applicants must be 21 years of age and possess a skilled knowledge of composition/vocabulary; computer knowledge; ability to organize/direct others; ability to learn the organization, function, policies, regulations and procedures of the Board of Education and the building to which assigned; develop and maintain working relationship with students, staff and public; ability to perform the essential functions of the position; and submit negative TB and BCII check prior to final employment. | How to Apply: | A written and skill competitive Civil Service exam to establish an eligibility list for the position of Secretary III will be conducted Saturday, September 18, 2010, 9:00 am, at the Fairfield Intermediate School, 255 Donald Drive, Fairfield.
SCOPE of the exam includes a written test of multiple-choice questions based on qualifications necessary for the position and a keyboarding speed test. A passing score of 70% is required on the written exam and a qualifying net 40 wpm typing skill assessment is also required to be included on an Eligibility List.
Applications will be available from the Receptionist at the Fairfield Municipal Building, 5350 Pleasant Ave., Monday-Friday, 8 am-5pm beginning August 23, 2010. Deadline for applications is Friday, 5 pm, September 3, 2010. NO EXCEPTIONS. In the event of a tie score on the written exam, after adding veteran preference points, priority in ranking is determined by the date and time the application is received. |
