Ben plans and oversees the special events offered through the Parks & Recreation Department.   These events include the Groovin' on the Green Concert Series, Village Green Fine Art Fair, Swingin' on the Green, entertainment for Red, White & Kaboom, Easter Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Patch and many others.  Ben schedules all entertainment and is responsible for attracting sponsors to support these events.  He also organizes the wine tasting series and fitness programming that take place in the Community Arts Center.

As the City's liaison to the Environmental Commission, Ben helps with the City's efforts to qualify as a Tree City USA awarded by the National Arbor Day Foundation.  In addition to the EC, Ben serves on the Parks and Recreation Board and the Cultural Arts Advisory Commission as staff liaison.

Background:

Ben earned his Bachelor's degree from Miami University in Health and Sports Studies and Master's of Science in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Ben began working with the City of Fairfield in 2002.  Previously, while at Miami University, he worked at the Goggin Ice Arena as an Intramural Sports Intern.  He also interned with Don Schumacher and Associates in Cincinnati, Ohio in the Prep Sports Division, working directly on the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. 

Ben is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) through the National Parks & Recreation Association and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Indiana University Executive Development Program.  He is also a member of the National Parks and Recreation Association and Ohio Parks and Recreation Association.  Ben has completed Leadership Fairfield (Class V) and the Indiana University Executive Development Program for Parks and Recreation Professionals.  

Personal interests/family:

Ben enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and the many activities in which they are involved.
