Police Divisions & Units

The Fairfield Police Department has an authorized force of 61 sworn law enforcement officers supported by an additional 25 civilian employees. Staffing is devoted to Road Patrol, Vice Squad, Investigations, DARE Program, School Resource Officers, two K-9 Officers, Juvenile Diversion Counselor and Bike Patrol.

Canine Unit

The police department has two canine teams, Officer John Cresap and Ketcher and Officer Rob Corner and Rex.

Ketcher is a German Shepherd trained at Von der haus Gill German Shepherds in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He began work with the Fairfield Police Force in November, 2004.

Rex is the newest dog, a German Shepherd from the Czech Republic, who began in January 2006.

Both dogs are trained to use their acute sense of smell to find drugs, track suspects or conduct building and evidence searches. The dogs are able to detect marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, heroin and their derivatives.

"It's rewarding," says Corner, "when you and the dog come back cold and muddy and tired from a chase and you have a suspect you wouldn't have had without him. It makes it worth it."

Criminal Investigations

The Fairfield Police Department conducts various types of investigations. Most cases start with a police officer conducting a preliminary investigation when called to the scene of a crime. From there, it may be assigned in one of three ways:

The responding officer may continue the investigation until it reaches its conclusion. The officer will provide you with the case number, the officer's name and telephone number, and, in some cases, victim assistance information, if you are eligible.

The Investigations Unit conducts follow-up investigations of auto theft, burglary, theft, fraud, rape, assault, homicide, armed robbery and other crimes. The unit may be contacted directly at 513-867-6030, option 6. If you know the name of the investigator assigned to your case, you may contact the investigator directly at the telephone number provided.

Drug and Vice

The Fairfield Police Department Special Investigations Unit handles drug and vice complaints.

You can leave information for the Special Investigations Unit on our recorded line at 513-896-8200. All calls are anonymous, unless you leave your name and number where the investigators can reach you.

While SIU investigators initiate many investigations, most cases start with information provided by concerned citizens. If you are concerned about a location, please let us know about it.
