"AT YOUR SERVICE" CALL-IN BRUSH AND LIMB PICKUP PROGRAM

The City of Fairfield is pleased to announce that beginning Monday, April 5, 2010, the Public Works Department will again provide a Call-in Brush and Limb Pickup Program to its residents.  Residents wishing to have brush and limbs picked up can arrange to do so by calling (or email) the Public Works Department at 867-4200 at least one week in advance of the scheduled pickup areas.  Normal business hours for the Public Works Department are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The three pickup areas will be the same as those used for the City's leaf pickup program; however, pickups will be scheduled (starting the first Monday of each month) as follows:

  • The first week of each month – areas west of Pleasant Avenue (U.S. 127)
  • The second week of each month – areas between Pleasant Avenue and Winton Road
  • The third week of each month – areas east of Winton Road

No pickups will be scheduled the last week of each month to allow for machinery repair and scheduling for the following month.

The following requirements have been established to ensure the safety and efficiency of this program.  There will be no deviation from these requirements:

Limbs must be at least six (6') feet in length and no more than six (6") inches in diameter and should be placed in the same direction.  See below for disposal of larger limbs.  Any limbs larger than 6" diameter will not be picked up.   (Leave limbs as long as possible)

Any smaller branches will be considered as brush and must be tied and bundled with natural fiber cord that is biodegradable (cotton, linen, or twine).  Bundles tied with wire, plastic or nylon cord will not be picked up.  All materials will be run through a chipper, so please ensure that there are no foreign objects, (i.e., metal, building materials, rocks, etc.), are included as these could cause damage to the equipment or injury to those operating the equipment.

Each bundle must not be heavier than 60 pounds and must be placed between the curb and sidewalk or at the edge of the roadway, not in the curb line or on the pavement.  Placement of debris in the street is a traffic and safety hazard and is a violation of City Ordinance and will not be picked up by City personnel.  Resident will be responsible for clean up and disposal.  Do not park in front of piles.  Piles that have blocked access or are obstructed by vehicles will not be picked up.

To schedule a pickup, be sure to call 867-4200 or send an email to public_works@fairfield-city.org or complete the online request form at http://www.fairfield-city.org/publicworks/brushpickup.cfm The request must be made at least one week prior to the scheduled pick-up week.  Calls and/or emails will be accepted up to 5:00 p.m. the preceding Monday.   All calls and emails must report name, address and a telephone number. It may be necessary to limit the number of scheduled pickups in a specific week, so call as far in advance as possible.

The program is limited to one pickup per household during each area pickup week.

The Call-in Brush and Limb Pickup Program will continue through October 23rd this year.

"Operation Dump Truck" can be utilized for larger limbs, in addition to brush.  This program provides residents a dumpster box or dump truck, to be loaded by the property owner and disposed of by the City.  For more information on the "Operation Dump Truck" program, please call 867-4200.

If you have small quantities, you can place them out with your regular trash to be picked up by Rumpke at no charge.

In addition, brush and limbs up to four (4") inches in diameter can be dropped off on the second Saturday of each month all year, at 4935 Groh Lane.  Parks crews will be on hand from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on these Saturdays to mulch the debris without charge. Residents may take the mulch back with them if they desire, or allow the mulch to be used in the city parks. No leaves or grass clippings are accepted, and users of this service must present proof of Fairfield residence.

Any questions regarding the call-in program should be directed to the Public Works Department at 867-4200.
