1. Where do I call to report a possible water main break?

Please call the Water Division at 513-858-7775 at any time.

2. My sanitary sewer is backing up. What should I do?

First, immediately stop all water usage, as backups are typically caused by plumbing problems within your home or business. Turn off washing machines, dishwashers, showers, and anything that uses water.

Second, after stopping all water usage, contact the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 513-858-7760 during the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Your questions will be answered by a Wastewater professional and, if needed, a crew will be dispatched to the your home or business in a timely manner (during heavy rain events, calls will be responded to in the order they are received). During the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., contact the Water Plant at 513-858-7775. The Plant Operator will pass the complaint to the proper Wastewater personnel who will respond to the complaint.

3. I have a question about my City of Fairfield Utility Bill.

Please contact the Utility Billing Office at 513-867-5370 Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

4. Where can I report a leaking fire hydrant?

To report a leaking or otherwise defective fire hydrant, please contact the City of Fairfield Public Utilities Water Division at 513-858-7775.

5. Why are Boil Water Advisories issued?

A Boil Water Advisory is issued by officials anytime that all or part of the water system loses pressure or is “depressurized”. When a small section of the water system is affected, as it may be due to a water main break, water customers are notified via notices hung on their doors, through the CodeRED Emergency Communications Network or both methods. 

The water system is normally under pressure and the water is "pushing out" of water leaks or other outlets. When the system is depressurized, there is the possibility that contaminants may be “pulled in” to the water system. A Boil Advisory must be issued to let the public know of the possibility that microorganisms (bacteria) may be present and that by boiling the water as described, any living bacteria will be inactivated. A boil water advisory does not mean that contaminants have been found, only that conditions have developed that could result in a bacterial contamination. Under a boil water advisory, it is recommended that water be brought to a rolling boil and boiled for at least two minutes before consumption. Boil water advisories are a common occurrence for public water systems across the country.

6. Why does the City of Fairfield have a Backflow Prevention Program?

The City of Fairfield is required by Ohio State Law to administer a backflow prevention program as a means to protect the public water supply from potential contamination. Fairfield’s program is designed to prevent the flow of water from a customer’s private piping back into the public water distribution system. Backflow prevention is primarily accomplished through the installation of backflow prevention devices on a customer’s water pipes. Backflow prevention generally applies to Commercial and Industrial facilities. 

7. Who do I call about storm sewer problems?

The City's Public Works Department maintains storm sewers. Storm sewers can be identified as the large grates in streets and near curbs. Give them a call at 513-867-4200.

8. What is my responsibility regarding sewer as a home or business owner?

It is the home or business owner's responsibility to maintain the sewer lateral from the home or business to the sewer main. It is the City's responsibility to maintain the sewer main.

9. Is my home or property connected to the City's public water andor sewer system?

To find out if your home or business is connected to the City of Fairfield's public water and/or sewer system, give us a call at 513-858-7775. This service is free for our community.

10. I need to repair or replace my water and/or sewer line. What should I do?

This can be very costly, please give the Public Utilities Department a call at 513-858-7775, as we may have some suggestions or alternatives for you to consider. If you do need to have repair or replacement preformed, only a licensed plumber by the City of Fairfield can perform the task. 11. I see raw sewage coming out of a manhole. What should I do?

This is called a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) and needs to be reported immediately. During the hours of 7a.m. and 11p.m., contact the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 513-858-7760, and during the hours of 11p.m. and 7a.m., contact the Water Plant at 513-858-7775.

12. Does the Public Utility Department Laboratory preform all analysis of water and wastewater samples?

With the exception of some nutrient testing and other specialized testing, our laboratory staff preforms all analysis.

13. Who should I contact if I experience problems with my water?

Questions concerning your water can be directed to 513-858-7775 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For emergencies after business hours, you may also call the Water Division at 513-858-7775.

14. I see little blue and/or green flags with the Public Utility Departments telephone number in my area. What does that mean?

It means that there is probably an underground utility in your area that needs repair. The blue flags mark the location of our water main and the green flags mark the location of the sanitary sewer. This is a safety precaution so that our underground utilities do not get damaged during the excavation to make the repair.

15. How do I get information about the quality of the water produced by the Fairfield Water Treatment Plant?

During the first half of each year, the City of Fairfield issues our Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to the citizens of Fairfield providing the results of our drinking water analyses for the past year. The USEPA and the OEPA set the water quality standards for safe drinking water. The water produced at our plant consistently meets or exceeds all of these requirements. 16. Do I have to use Duke Energy as my electric provider?

17. How do I dispose of tree limbs or brush?

The City offers a call-in brush pickup service. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at 513-867-4200.

18. Who do I talk to about getting my garbage picked up?

The city contracts with a trash hauler. Currently Rumpke provides this service for Fairfield residents.

19. How do I dispose of my old large appliances (e.g. washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove, dishwasher)?

20. How can I safely dispose of hazardous materials?

The Fairfield Fire Department does not take any type of hazardous materials. Household hazardous waste must be disposed of according to state and federal laws and regulations. 21. How can I safely dispose of unused medications or controlled substances?

Unused medications or controlled substances can be disposed of in the City’s “drug drop box” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week located in the lobby of the Fairfield Police Department at 5230 Pleasant Avenue.
