As Assistant City Manager, Dan Wendt is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the City of Fairfield, Ohio (Pop. 42,500). Fairfield is a stable full-service community that enjoys a bond rating of Aa1; a $75.5 million annual operating budget; $87 million 5-year capital improvement program; police, dispatch, fire and emergency medical service; 400+ lane miles of roadways; 41 parks and recreation facilities; water and wastewater utilities; and 341 full-time equivalent employees covering 21 square miles. Dan was appointed by City Manager Mark Wendling in September 2018. Previously, Dan served in a similar COO role as the Director of Public Safety and Service for the City of Norwalk, OH (pop. 18,000). Dan has directly managed department and division heads in the areas of police, fire, sanitation, parks and recreation, information technology, human resources, communications, and safety and risk management.
Dan is currently participating Emerging Leaders Development Program through the International City Manager Association (ICMA) and is in the final steps of obtaining the Certified Labor Relations Professional (CLRP) designation through the National Public Employer Labor Relations Association. He is an advisory board member of the Fairfield Family YMCA and is a member of the Fairfield Rotary Club.
Dan, his wife, and two sons reside in Fairfield. He served three years in the United States Peace Corps administering community and economic development initiatives in the Dominican Republic. He is fluent in Spanish, and holds a Master of Public Administration from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio State University. Dan likes hunting, fishing, community service, home improvement, minor mechanics, and the occasional triathlon.
