First, immediately stop all water usage, as backups are typically caused by plumbing problems within your home or business. Turn off washing machines, dishwashers, showers, and anything that uses water.

Second, after stopping all water usage, contact the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 513-858-7760 during the hours of 7 a.m. and 10:45 p.m. Your questions will be answered by a Wastewater professional and, if needed, a crew will be dispatched to the your home or business in a timely manner (during heavy rain events, calls will be responded to in the order they are received). During the hours of 10:45 p.m. and 7 a.m., contact the Water Plant at 513-858-7775. The Plant Operator will pass the complaint to the proper Wastewater personnel who will respond to the complaint.

To report a leaking or otherwise defective fire hydrant, please contact the City of Fairfield Public Utilities Water Division at 513-858-7775.

A Boil Water Advisory is issued by officials anytime that all or part of the water system loses pressure or is “depressurized”. When a small section of the water system is affected, as it may be due to a water main break, water customers are notified via notices hung on their doors, through the CodeRED Emergency Communications Network or both methods. 

The water system is normally under pressure and the water is "pushing out" of water leaks or other outlets. When the system is depressurized, there is the possibility that contaminants may be “pulled in” to the water system. A Boil Advisory must be issued to let the public know of the possibility that microorganisms (bacteria) may be present and that by boiling the water as described, any living bacteria will be inactivated. A boil water advisory does not mean that contaminants have been found, only that conditions have developed that could result in a bacterial contamination. Under a boil water advisory, it is recommended that water be brought to a rolling boil and boiled for at least two minutes before consumption. Boil water advisories are a common occurrence for public water systems across the country.

The City of Fairfield is required by Ohio State Law to administer a backflow prevention program as a means to protect the public water supply from potential contamination. Fairfield’s program is designed to prevent the flow of water from a customer’s private piping back into the public water distribution system. Backflow prevention is primarily accomplished through the installation of backflow prevention devices on a customer’s water pipes. Backflow prevention generally applies to Commercial and Industrial facilities. 

It is the home or business owner's responsibility to maintain the sewer lateral from the home or business to the sewer main. It is the City's responsibility to maintain the sewer main.

If you do need to have repair or replacement preformed, only a licensed plumber by the City of Fairfield can perform the task. This is called a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) and needs to be reported immediately. During the hours of 7a.m. and 10:45 p.m., contact the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 513-858-7760, and during the hours of 10:45 p.m. and 7a.m., contact the Water Plant at 513-858-7775.

With the exception of some nutrient testing and other specialized testing, our laboratory staff preforms all analysis.

It means that there is probably an underground utility in your area that needs repair. The blue flags mark the location of our water main and the green flags mark the location of the sanitary sewer. This is a safety precaution so that our underground utilities do not get damaged during the excavation to make the repair.

During the first half of each year, the City of Fairfield issues our Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to the citizens of Fairfield providing the results of our drinking water analyses for the past year. The USEPA and the OEPA set the water quality standards for safe drinking water. The water produced at our plant consistently meets or exceeds all of these requirements. The city contracts with a trash hauler. Currently Rumpke provides this service for Fairfield residents.

The Fairfield Fire Department does not take any type of hazardous materials. Household hazardous waste must be disposed of according to state and federal laws and regulations. Unused medications or controlled substances can be disposed of in the City’s “drug drop box” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week located in the lobby of the Fairfield Police Department at 5230 Pleasant Avenue.
