Helping Us Respond With Care

The Special Needs Registry is a voluntary program designed to support individuals that may have difficulty communicating, processing instructions, or responding to emergency personnel during critical, high-stress situations.

By providing important information ahead of time, you can help first responders better understand an individual's needs and adjust their response accordingly. This reduces confusion, stress and misunderstanding, and leads to safer, more compassionate and more effective outcomes.

The Special Needs Registry may be helpful for individuals with conditions or circumstances such as:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Intellectual or developmental disabilities
  • Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia
  • Mental health conditions
  • Sensory processing disorders
  • Speech, vision, or hearing impairments
  • Mobility limitations

You may register yourself, a family member, or someone in your care—as long as the individual lives, works, or goes to school in the City of Fairfield.

We understand that this type of information is personal and sensitive. All registry information is:

  • 100% voluntary—update or remove information at any time
  • Strictly confidential
  • Used only by City of Fairfield emergency personnel for response and safety purposes
  • Accessed only when responding to a call or situation involving a registered individual

Only the information you submit will be added to the registry. You may choose to include details such as:

  • Diagnoses or conditions that may affect behavior or communication
  • Communication preferences or limitations
  • Sensitivities, triggers, or calming strategies
  • Mobility concerns or medical devices
  • Medications

Preparing for an emergency doesn't mean expecting the worst, it means giving first responders the tools needed to ensure positive results for everyone.

If you, someone in your household, or someone in your care has special needs that may affect communication or behavior during an emergency situation, we encourage you to consider enrolling in the Special Needs Registry.
