Phase 2 of the Intelligent Traffic System project will build upon the success of Phase 1 which upgraded the City’s traffic signals in 2010 by connecting most intersections to a central traffic system by a network of fiber optic cable. The second phase will connect every signal in the City to the central system and make various improvements including pedestrian signals heads and push buttons, LED retrofits to existing illuminated signs, video and radar detection, backup power, emergency vehicle preemption, and additional PTZ cameras, among other improvements. The Ohio Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments has provided $2,280,000 in funding.
